The first thing of cousre is to make sure you have all the materials you need. I decided to go with black leather graind vinyl. I bought it at a fabric store in the clearance section for $11 (I bought 2 Yards which was more than enough). You will also need to buy some thin foam (I asked for one yard) which also cost me around $11. You will also need to buy contact cement and spray glue. I used these glues you could buy anything that works for you. I also bought the smallest scrrews that i could find at home depot. Then there are the tools. A flat and phillips head screwdriver and pop rivets and pop rivet gun.

    1) The first thing to do is remove the whole door panel trim. If your door has manual windows remove the regulator handle first and then unscrew all the screws and lift the trim panel off.
Heres a pic of the trim panel off.

    2) Next you have to remove the staples holding the door insert in place. Here are some pics.

The staples are going to have to be bent with a flat head screw driver and then pushed out.

also remove the staples holding the carpet inplace.

    3) take the old carpet off and remove the foam also

This is what it will look like when everything is taken off. I left some of the old glue on and it wasnt a problem later.

4)Use the door insert to trace on the foam and the old carpet piece to trace on the vinyl.

      Re: door inserts

      5) Use the spray glue on one side of the foam and on the door insert and glue put them together.

Practice folding over the corners first before putting on the glue
Do the same thing with the vinyl but use the contact cement and a brush on the edges.

      6) Fold the edges over. I had to cut some of the excess material off while trying to fold it over to make it fit well. This was the hardest part for me. The corners were the hardest. Just remember to practice first before putting on the glue. And use any types of clips to hold it down.

I let it dry over night and strted working on it the next day.

        Re: door inserts

        7) The next thing I did was use a small phillips head screw driver and put some dents on some the crosses on the back side of the door insert.

This is to make it easier to put some timy screws in the dents.

        8) I used tiny screw (which can be purchesed at home depot if you dont have any) and I test fitted them on the dents in the middle of the crosses. I also used some wire to make a loop around the screws. You can also use washers if you have ones small enough.

          Re: door inserts

          9) The screws hold the door insert in place while you do the next step. The next thing you do is drill a hole the size of the pop rivets that you are going to use on the waether stripping part and on door insert at the same time.

Put three or four pop rivets and you should be done and ready to put the door trim back on the door. I tried using staples but they wouldnt go all the way threw and I used the pop rivets because that is what I had.

Here is a finished view of the door trim panel. Feel free to ask any question that you may have and I hope this help you out.

                          Re: door inserts

Could you not just put the vinyl over the carpet? That would avoid having to get the foam

EDIT: Nice write up btw. I will probably do this tomorrow when I change out my door speakers :D
